OVERFLOW MECHANISM
This system is very useful in following situations.
- It prevent overflow of water in floor, If wash basin drain system waste coupling blocked and faucet is open.
- If we purposely close drain system with pop-up system for filling and forget faucet.
- Spillage by waves when we use it.
- It acts as air-vent at the time of usage.
- It improve the water flow through drain system.
Mostly all models of ceramic wash basins have these overflow mechanism to prevent filling of basin.
All types of Bath tubs have this overflow system to prevent over filling of tub and spillage of water while we get in to the Tub.
Most of the Kitchen sinks don't have Overflow system. The reason behind is,
- Size and Capacity - Kitchen sinks are larger in size compared with their usage. They have good storage capacity. So the chance of spilling in the ground is lesser.
- Usage - Normally we don't fill the kitchen sink like filling wash basin at the time of shaving.
- Double sink - Mostly we use double bowled sinks, the center partition is lowered in height. In this second bowl acts as reserve storage unit.
- Hygiene - Kitchen is the area of food preparation. If some food materials clogged in overflow system, It decay and become big source of germs and gone hazardous for health.
Even though some Higher end models in branded Kitchen sinks like Franke, Carrysil, etc. in India have Overflow mechanism.
